Groundhog Day Determining Our Winter Weather?

Groundhog Day is next Sunday and it is believed if the groundhog comes out and see his shadow it will be 6 more weeks of Winter. Usually, in Mobile and the surrounding areas, this isn’t so  much of a worry for us, but here lately it has been getting colder and colder.

Although having all this cold weather might not be ideal for us regular warm weather folks, you have to remember, it’s not good for the bugs either. Usually the temperatures do not drop so low as to have a big affect on our coastal pests, but when they do, it can mean less problems for you.

Did you know:

  • Insects are cold-blooded and will not develop or function well at temperatures below 50.  They rely on our warm temperatures to survive. This causes them to go dormant or die in the freezing temperatures.
  • Insects might lay their eggs in the winter to be hatched in spring. However, when the temperatures drop too low, these eggs don’t survive either, making spring time pests be less abundant. So their might be a few that survive but won’t be as numerous as we have seen in past Springs and Summers.

So all in all having some of this cold weather could pay off for us in the Summer. However, don’t forget many pests will come in to your warm home to find heat and shelter. Be sure your home is sealed up and protected so you don’t become a safe haven for these little buggers. Call BugMaster for a free inspection today.

At BugMaster, we can help you keep your home protected.  Call us at the Mobile location, 251-666-4402 or the Daphne location, 251-626-6667.
