Once again, the BugMaster crew has taken action to spread the Christmas cheer and impact the community. We got the holidays off to a great start by decorating the Child Advocacy Center of Mobile and then partnering with WKRG News 5 for our fourth year and did some shopping The Great Toy Drive at Target.
The Child Advocacy Center of Mobile provides a wide range of services to sexually abused and/or severely physically abused children and their non-offending family members. The CAC helps to begin the healing process for these sufferers and also participates in increasing the public awareness of child abuse to aid in the prevention of it.
“Christmas can be a very hard time of the year for children who have experienced abuse. While other children all around them are happy and in a mood to celebrate and anticipate the joy of the holiday season, these children are carrying around a hidden bag of unseen heavy psychological rocks on their back from the trauma they have experienced,” says Patrick F. Guyton, Executive Director of The Child Advocacy Center or Mobile.
Many years ago, Murphy High School’s Vocational Industrial Clubs made it an annual practice to visit the CAC and decorate the entire facility. BugMaster’s very own Vice President, Austin Key, was one of these students who participated in this yearly volunteer work. “About 4 years ago, Austin noticed we had no outdoor decorations for Christmas and decided to begin helping. They have been decorating 3 years,” recalls Elaine Henderson, Development Director of CAC.
“Having a beautiful, decorated facility means so much to them. BugMaster has transformed the inside and outside of the CAC into a wonderland of lights that truly welcomes child abuse victims,” Guyton says.
The BugMaster crew loves every second of giving back to their community.
“The work that the CAC does is such a worthy and needed cause. With BugMaster being a local company, we try to be involved with the community— and what better way to do it, than to help children? By our helping with the small task of decorating, the CAC team is allowed to focus on more important things. Our employees enjoy being part of it because they know it’s for such a worthy cause and it goes with the holiday spirit of giving.” -Austin Key, BugMaster Vice President
For the fourth year, we’ve partnered up with our friends at WKRG News 5 to help with The Great Toy Drive. “It’s so much fun to put smiles on kids’ faces at Christmastime. What other way is there, other than shopping for toys?”
Together, we combined a large cash contribution and hit the local Target to embark on a fun-filled shopping spree to buy toys for children in need. To us, this is part of what Christmas is all about— helping to make a bright Christmas for kids.
