40 Years of Service: The Bugmaster Origin Story
By Frank Alardo (The Original BugMaster)
After working for another pest control company for many years, I found myself bitten by the entrepreneurial bug. I decided to go out on my own and start a company dedicated to what I know best: bugs. With just $10,000 saved up—enough to last approximately 10 months—I quit my job and set out to rid homes and businesses of unwanted pests.
It didn’t take long, however, for me to encounter my first obstacle. Building the business required going door to door—keep in mind it was 1975—and I couldn’t afford a much-needed new truck. Luckily, my father-in-law offered to let me borrow some money at 10% interest. I took him up on his offer, borrowed $2,500 to purchase a 1973 Ford, and managed to pay him back in just 90 days.
With a new truck and some fear that was overshadowed by much enthusiasm, my wife, Jan, and I set out to build the business going door to door. While the company started slowly—in our first month we collected just $128—it gradually improved. After the fifth or six month we were totaling around $1,000 a month. Over time, one thing led to another, and we just kept growing. Today, we service more than 10,000 local pest control customers, making us one of the largest locally owned pest control businesses in the region. And throughout our 40 years, we’ve exterminated it all: bedbugs, termites on wooden boats, bees in the walls, and even bugs on an airplane.
While we’ve seen many changes in our industry over the years—from the type of chemicals used for pest & termite control to gas prices—one thing has always stayed the same: our commitment to quality, professional personnel, proactive programs and innovative products.
We are proud to be the local pest control, termite, and wildlife experts that have been protecting South Alabama homes and businesses for the last 40 years. We are excited about our next 40 years and we want to be your Local Pest Control Experts.
